I've just come home from another hard days work to find my house a mess and the kids on the internet asking why there's no food in the house! A bit miffed to say the least.. Naturally, I want the kids to be able to do their homework(!!) but not download music, MSN, etc, so my question is,
'Does anyone know how to put a password onto the computer, or something not too technical, to stop them accessing the internet unless I say they can'

Have you tried discipline? When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0

If you attempt to start a technical war, you may find that they know more than you!
Perhaps consider what you would do if (say) they wanted to watch TV rather than doing their homework - or even play (non-computer) games.0

Remove all their privileges until they tidy the place up and do their homework for at least a week, and when they start to behave allow them some back.
"I've just come home from another hard days work to find my house a mess and the kids on the internet asking why there's no food in the house!" – No wonder the country is in such a mess, how on Earth do you let children get to the point where they treat you, and their home, like this?0

Agree totally with the comments above.
Complete I-net privilege removal for a week would sort them out but they need to learn it is a privilege.
 I didn't have I-net when I was younger.
When my kids are of that age I am going to lock down usage using the modem. Dependant on what modem you have you can lock it down to only allow access on certain machines between certain hours.
My proposal when my girls are old enough is jobs, homework between a-b time. enjoyment between x-y assuming all tasks to be completed between a-b time are done.
 Not done, no privileges.
The wife already does this for me. Housework done on Thursday. When house is clean I get time to play the X-box. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Worst case. Do what my dad did. Take all the plugs off the electrical things. Although that did just teach me to go out and buy a plug I could wire up when he wasn't around:rotfl:August Make £10 per day £0/£310Credit Card Debt Paid Off £42/2952.680

I'd like to stop the internet altogether but I like to use it and they need it for their homework, (Though I do realise it's probably 20% homework and 80% music and MSN.) We live out in the sticks so it's not like they can use the library internet.
I've got them chopping veggies for tea at the moment as punishment (hee..hee) while I'm planning my revenge on here!
Phoned the internet provider and they say it's up to me to sort it0

            What modem are you using?
You can restrict access to programs between certain hours if you have the right modems.
Might take a bit of snooping through the histories to know what sites to lock out.August Make £10 per day £0/£310Credit Card Debt Paid Off £42/2952.680

I'm going to do just that!! EASY! I'll take the modem to work...now why didn't I think of that!! Thanks!!0

For the comment above, 'how on Earth do you let children get to the point where they treat you, and their home, like this?'
You're correct up to a point but it's hard to sort things when you're at work. They take advantage of TV and computer privaleges while I'm not there. Otherwise it's an hour each on internet at night after school unless it's homework. And their rooms have to be tidy and their chores done!0

Disconnect the modem (or equivalent) and keep it about your person. Only issue it out on the satisfactory completion of allocated chores/tasks.0

Actually be fair to the kids, get rid of all computers in the house so you are all in the same boat - that is fair to all sides concerned.0
