Can I get to Calgary any cheaper?

Hi.
Looking at going to Canada in late summer, flying to Calgary. The wife's family are in Canada (an 8 hour drive from Calgary - down the road in Canadian terms!).
There are two of us along with our son who will be 14/15 months when we go so can fly free apart from taxes.
Been looking around and the cheapest I've found (inc. taxes) is £902 for all of us. I'd probably want to bump us up to 'premium' to get the quicker check-in and baggage allowance. Cheapest I've found for that is £1138 inc. taxes.
Looking at flying out 27 Aug and coming back four weeks later (24 Sept).
Anyone got any way to reduce these costs? Along with car hire (so far cheapest has been £824 for a people carrier for the four weeks) we're looking at 2 grand which is making me sweat as it seems like a lot! We need the people carrier because of the luggage - we'll have a travel cot and buggy with us as well as probably four large-ish suitcases.
Any and all help greatly appreciated!

Hi . Husbands family live in Toronto. We are going a few days before you for just over 2.5 weeks and are price was £1270 for 2 adults, 2 kids. We are going with Canadian affair. They have always been the cheapest when we've looked. We could have got it as cheap as £1032 but we waited for a 0% cc to come thru and the price went up whilst we were waiting:mad:  . I notice you have an under 2 year old. You don't have to pay for a seat for him but he would have to sit on your lap. Depends really on whether you want that with a long haul flight and what sort of child you've got;) . When my own livewire son was 15 months we paid for his seat as didn't fancy the journey with him on our laps. You are going away when it is still the school summer hols in certain parts of UK. In my town schools don't go back until 5th September. If you could alter your start date to early September you may find prices are cheaper.moomintroll wrote:Hi.

Why are you getting a people carrier for 2 of you plus child? Do your in-laws have a car? Maybe it would be cheaper to hire a smaller car and let in-laws take their vehicle too for days out.
We went when son was 3 months old and again at 15 months. We asked the relatives to pick up the baby related items we needed, which they did by a combination of asking their friends/relatives to borrow items for our stay plus scouting round the yard sales. Or you can pick up inexpensive items at Walmart over there. 4 suitcases sounds a lot for 2 people plus child even for a 4 week stay. Can't you wash and dry things at the in-laws house.0 -
Just worth mentioning I think that Thomas Cook airlines are quite a bit more comfortable that Air Transat/MyTravel and Zoom, which are your other options.
As previously posted...Canadian Affair rules. Almost impossible to beat.0 -
I read somewhere recently that British Airways will be flying London-Calgary direct this year - not sure of the start date tho.0

We've been to Calgary twice and both times booked via Canadian Affair. We found them excellent, especially their telephone helpline.
Our flights were changed both times (airlines and airport) the Air Canada flight was fantastic, I think we gained two stone on the flight as it seemed to be constant eating! We were very, very disappointed with the My Travel flight and everyone was complaining - I've been to Spain with more leg room so bear that in mind if you have a toddler on your lap. Thomas Cook were also pretty good.0 -
I've tried and tried over the years to beat Canadian Affairs prices, I don't think it can be done! They're great.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0
