Welcome Finance - Help Please.

I’m currently going through the laborious process of reclaiming my PPI from Welcome Finance.

I originally wrote to them on the 8th September 2009. There were two reasons I believed I was due my money back:

a) I was told that I needed to agree to the insurance to get the loan.
b) I called them a month into the agreement to cancel, but was told I was outside of the initial ’30 day cancellation period’.

I received no response from them so wrote again on 11th October giving them 14 days before I would take my complaint to the Financial Ombudsman.
Yesterday, I received a letter dated 26th October advising that they hadn’t received my questionnaire from their original correspondence (no date of this supposed correspondence given, no correspondence ever received!).

How do I now play this? I know that they’re using stalling tactics and I’m really not in the mood for them, but do I have to play the game and ask for this questionnaire in order that I may get the ball rolling? Is the questionnaire even relevant? Or can I now go to the Financial Ombudsman as my complaint hasn’t been dealt with satisfactorily?

Realistically what are my chances of ever getting this money? I’ve read a few success stories on here, but for every success story there are umpteen stories where people seem to be getting nowhere. I’ve also read that Welcome are close to going bust, being shut down yada yada yada. I don’t feel I’ll ever get it and part of me wants to give up, but know I’m entitled to it and it would make quite a difference to my life right now.

I look forward to any responses.

    Hello there

In regards of the questionnaire you may now be aware that this is becoming a common procedure, and yes like a stalling tactic as well I think, but depending if they still hold all the info on you, it may be because they do not where we believe they should at least hold the information for at least 5/6 years, generally if the account is still running they do tend to hold the information.

You could either contact them and tell them you have not received this questionnaire, or you could ring the FOS and ask them what they think you should do in this situation, ask the FOS for their opinion, they may either say to ask for the questionnaire, and/or if you hear nothing by the full 8 weeks is to take your complaint to them.

Apparently it seemed there was a good run in that Welcome were paying out, hopefully they will uphold in your favour, good luck and please keep us posted.;)

I currently have a complaint with Welcome finance for mis-selling of PPI, like you I was told that unless I took the PPI then I couldn't have the loan. I have a response from them in August statin that they would give me a decision in 4 weeks time. I telephoned them at the end of September and they told me they are behind with their timescales by one month and I should hear by end of October. Still not heard anything but giving them the benefit of the doubt due to the postal strike. Hope your lucky but be cautious that you'll have a fight on your hands with them.....
