URGENT help please ebay sold early!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend put an item on ebay Friday at auction for 10 days and has sold it this morning. Has he broken any rules please and how do we proceed?

First time for him to use ebay.
Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

I would think it impossible for ebay to sell your item early. Either it has been pulled for an infringement or your friend listed it as a BIN (Buy it now).

Some questions to ask before anyone can advise you further, what does the email from ebay say, does it actually say 'sold' and if so is their a buyers id shown. Was there a BIN on the auction and if your friend still has th eoriginal listing email can she confirm that she did actually list for 10 days and not 3 or 5 by accident.

Alternatively, if you want to pm me with the auction number I will take a look for her.

Do you mean that the auction was still running but your friend got an offer to deal 'off' ebay and so stopped the auction herself?

If so, that breaches ebay rules. if however you have a seller claim to have won, you could be being scammed (especially if it is a phone) in which case look to see if the auction has actually closed or not.

    I don't understand...........

unless, you've listed the item on ebay, and have decided to sell it 'off ebay' . i.e. not as an auction but a private transaction

if that's the case, simply cancle the auction, as long as there's more than 24 hours left you can cancle all bids and end early, there's nothing wrong with doing that!

Yes bleugh he put it on ebay for auction, this guy was a bidder the they spoke on the phone arranged he's come to see it today and bought it.
As i said this is a first encounter with ebay and we thought it wa ok to do that ans then we'd just put a sold on it. Naiive yes deliberate infringement , no but from your reply I would think it's ok just to cancel the.

Thanks to you and Soolin for replying so soon I was really worried he would get tino some sort of trouble.

Selling the item off of eBay is breaking the rules, however just end the auction and you should be OK.

Selling 'off ebay' is considered fee avoidance and breaches the policy here:

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/listing-circumventing.html

where it says under Some Examples

Offers to transact outside eBay - Offering the opportunity to purchase the item or other merchandise outside the eBay online marketplace.

However, it can be difficult to prove and in a one off situation ebay are unlikely to get complaints from other buyers. Ebay are likely only to act where a seller makes a habit of this and where a pattern emerges, or where either party are foolish enough to start using the ask seller a question for such arrangements.

OK thanks ' lesson learned '.
Teach us not to be so hasty and read rules properly but there are so many on there they're a little confusing for new users.

Thanks again to all of you for replies:beer:
