How To Stop Credit Card Cheques By Text?

I have a Virgin credit card (MBNA). The keep sending me credit card cheques which I don't want. The only options to stop these are a) to write to them b) to text 'CCC Stop' to 83838. Obviously they haven't got around to email yet...
So, given that they don't have my mobile number (and they're not getting it), how does this latter option work? Do they call you back?
Is it just a way of getting my mobile number so they can try to sell me other things later?

you can just ring 0800 062 062 and ask them, can be done over phone

If your mobile number is on your account it will recognise that and the cheques will stop ( I did this recently).
If it's not then obviously the system won't know which account your number relates to and won't do anything.
Easiest thing to do I guess would be to ring CS or go online, add your mobile number, then text the stop request.
