I do feel like it's a bit of a battle won Alastair, I'm annoyed with NR for so many reasons but mostly it's irresponsible handling of me and my husband, every thing they have said to us over the years has been bundled up and sugar coated to make it sound like we're doing the right thing with them.

In reality their small print made it impossible to try to use our home to try to relieve our debt when we could sold the house and released the equity in it, they are the bee all and end all of why we're bankrupt. I hate them with a passion and only just getting over how stupid and gullable i have been with regards to my mortgage.

You know the worst part, I went with NR because they were fellow Northerners. Well I deserved to land on my bot making financial decisions like that. Hands up it was my fault but my goodness I'm learning now and i'll never put my name on something which I don't fully understand.

Well, whats the really, really worst that can ever happen anyway?

Miche, fear not. The problem with NR is that their computer system generates standard template letters and if you're circumstances are fortunate enough your matter will correlate with the content of the letter. However; if you are not so fortunate their correspndence to you will be as relevant as a monk in a brothel and this is the problem that I always have with them.

For instance when I was paying my mortgage at a reduced rate because exhb couldn't be ached to pay his share I received letters almost every other day outlining my arrears and a plea something along the lines of:

'We really mean it when we say we can help you through your situation and come to some agreement in respect of your arrears'

Eh? but I regularly call you to update you on the uselessness of my ex husband, so why the offer of friendship?

So I call and they apologise and a few days later the cycle begins again with the arrival of an identical letter. Suffice to say I see the Newcastle address on the back of the envelope and I wonder if I can cite the same grounds of divorce for these clowns that I did when I got shot of the same waste of space that caused the mortgage arrears and the confetti-like frequency of the letters in the first place!

I digress. In short, let your legal advisors work it out with them. I doubt it would even get to court in any case-they are way too busy assuring me that I can still pay my mortgage and everything will be alight!

  • Hi there,
We are going through this with NR at the moment, they want us to sign the form before they will repo - I say whistle for it!!!!
If they had been more helpful 6/8 months ago then we wouldn't be in this mess. now that we have £3000+arrears they are "willing to help us stay in our home"
mind you at the bottom of the latest letter they say "please be advised will charge £25 per month every month you are in arrears" - yeah cos you really want to help!!

Thanks for your post, please do keep us updated on what happens
    P :)
