My letting agency mixed up my gas reading
Options
My letting agency informed of my starter gas reading when we moving in to our flat. This is why I made the unfortunate mistake of not taking a reading for myself because I believed the agency was accurate with their reading.
When I gave the gas company my final reading along with the agency's reading my gas bill was extortionate.
After many expensive phone calls I have since discovered that the reading the agency took was not our starter reading but was a reading from a year before, the agency went to the gas company to compare readings and said that they have recalculated my starter reading based on the average use of the gas. What ever calculation they made still appears to be drastically wrong.
What are my rights?
because it quite clearly appears to me, that the agency gave me false information which has cost me time, money, stress and frustration.

Good to see you're keen to keep the compo culture alive and kicking.
How much are you seeking in damages exactly for all your "time, money, stress and frustration"?
Good luck, since you failed to mitigate any of this by not doing what you were supposed to do. i.e take readings and open an account yourself with the supplier
What evidence have you the estimate is wrong? What could the supplier do otherwise?
The only other thing they could do is charge you from the last reading they did have on that meter (perhaps the one provided by the outgoing tenant).
They've presumably already checked that and found it either not available or dated so much earlier than when you moved in, they opted to estimate your usage instead as that would be more favourable to you."Now to trolling as a concept. .... How many more times are you going to start new threads on this???

I don't think you have much of a chance here at all. It's not their reponsibility to ensure that the readings are accurate, its up to the bill payer.
Hopefully this will help someone else that might read this in future to ensure that they do their own reading instead of relying on someone else to do it for them. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0
