I moved into a privately rented flat 4 months ago and the landlord (apparently) notified british gas we think to say new tenants had arrived and gave them our readings. We recieved a letter saying that we were indeed tenants of BG but since then have had no bills or any contact from them. Surely by now we should have had a quartely bill. We are getting worried as:
a; we dont want a huge bill to arrive
b; we want to do a price compare thing and shop around to find a cheaper rate
c, BUT we don't want to draw attention to our selves incase we've slipped through some net :rotfl:

also our flat is an upper flat in a converted house and the downstairs flat is empty (we are 1st tennants since house has been split into flats)

not sure what to do, help please, any advice welcome

Not sure what to do? Perhaps call your supplier ... ?

I'm sure it wont draw any more attention than if a new supplier contacts them and says were are going to take over the supply contract from them.

Perhaps your supplier is waiting for you to call them to confirm you are happy to take over the account. Otherwise , I'll call my supplier and tell them Gordon Brown has rented my house as his second home and all bills should be sent to him from now on :D
(All your LL has done is closed his account with the supplier)

a; Your gonna get a bill for he past 4 month so it depends how much used in the past 4 months. You should have have phone BG yourself to confirm the new meter reading you could be in big trouble if your landlord has not done this right.
b; You'll need to pay off your what you owe to BG frist
c; They will catch up to you the longer you wait the greater the bill your going to get though the door will be

Not only are the chances of you getting away without paying anything very small in all likelihood the amount you do pay for these last few months will be ten to thirty percent more expensive than if you had been proactive in the first place. And the gas component of any bills could be even worse than that.
