Hi
I have been with my partner for 22 yrs, though we do not live together.
We rent seperate houses in the uk but my partner owns a house in Italy that is in his name.
The thing is my partner is still married to the woman that he left 30 yrs ago.
I was told recently that his wife will be entitled to the property in Italy if my partner dies, is this true?
Thanks

As he is still married to her then it will go to her. Even if he wasn't married to her it wouldn't go to you unless he left it to you in his will.:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0

That's about right so if you were thinking of throwing the toaster in the bath with him I'd get him to write a will first.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0

He could write a will leaving it to you even if he is married (I assume she's not financially dependant on him). I'm still officially married to the man I split from 12 years ago, but I have a will that specifies where everything will go. It would only go to him if I didn't have a will.0

So a will is needed
Is that something you need to see a solicitor for? Or can it be done another way?
Thanks for all the information :beer:0 -

Depending on the circumstances, she could still claim a constructive interest in the house.
It is possible to make a will without a solicitor, but in this instance I would take advice on the above before doing so.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Why didn't they get divorced?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Is his wife in England or in Italy. I dont know, but maybe Italian law may also come into this one.0

Does the wife live in the house in Italy? Does Italy have laws about inheritance that will affect this? Is partner and/or wife Italian?
Could get complicated0 -
