Got a Christmas temp job, will I receive JSA until when I start working or until...

... I receive my first paycheque?

I start on Monday but my first payday will be the 25th November. Will I still be paid benefits until then? Otherwise I'm going to be in a bit of trouble.

Your entitlement to JSA will cease when you commence full time work. You will be paid for any days for which you are entitled.

How long have you been on JSA?

    Has it been continuous?

Will your job be over 16 hours?

Will it last for 5 weeks or longer?

The point of these questions is that there are cash payments for people starting work, but only if they have been claiming for long enough (I think more than six months) and only if the job will last for a reasonable amount of time.
  • It will be 33 hours a week, I start on Monday and I think the contract will end on or around the 31st December.
  • bumping this...

if I can't get benefits up until when I get paid, is it likely I can get some sort of loan from the Job Centre to last until then?
  • I think it would depend on what you needed the money for. For example if you need new clothes/bus pass to start work you could contact the Jobcentre to find out about ADF (Adviser Discretion Fund) to help with costs but this should be done before you start work.

However if you need to pay for electric and food etc, and have no money left you could try applying for a crisis loan. i.e in 2 weeks time when you would normally receive your next JSA payment.

If you are starting work for more than 5 weeks, for more than 16 hours and have been claiming for more than 6mths (no breaks), you would be entitled to a job grant (£100 for single person/without children) when starting work but this can take a while to be paid out.

There are also run-ons for housing costs with the same qualifying conditions applied.
