Difficulty with thanking?

I'm not new. I've given - and received - plenty of thanks over the couple of years I've been coming here, as you can see from my details. I've not been told off for anything. I'm not the greatest OS-er of all time, but I don't think that's an MSE crime. But all of a sudden I'm getting messages saying I'm not allowed to thank people. Sometimes, just sometimes, it works. But then, a couple of posts down, it doesn't. I've tried on more than one board. I can post ... well, if this posts I can ... What is going on?

  • My brother has a difficulty with thanking, he never thanks anyone.

Family, friends, people that serve him in shops etc etc
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

Ha ha. I can thank you, I see! But how would your lovely brother - how could you not thank the bus driver when you get off? I do that every day - feel if he could only thank at random. So sometimes the words came out right and other times they were just random garbage, even though he really wanted to say thank you?

Any more technical response from someone? Methinks the lovely borders_dude is taking the p*ss.

I just tried to thank you, and got -

kunekune, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
    1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
    2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
I'm definitely pressing Thanks. I don't get an error message when I post or start a thread. And sometimes I'm allowed to thank people ...

That is an error message when vbulletin doesn't think you are signed in for some reason usually

It is not that someone has ticked a box saying you can't thank someone or else it would happen everytime.

When it happens does the web address in the address bar change? i.e. does the www. appear or disappear? Have you tried using a different browser?

try clearing cookies and cache and see if it helps

Do you have your browser set to remember password and auto login?

I'll experiment ... I do have the browser set to remember password and auto login. I managed to thank you just now. Nothing changed in the address bar. I'm using IE because my work databases don't work with the other browsers, and it's a real pain having several on the go at once.

This happened to me as well this morning when I was trying to reply. After an hour or so I logged back in and it's been fine since. I was getting worried !

I tried to thank just now and couldn't. I logged out and back in again, and still couldn't thank.

Who am I meant to email about a problem like this? Nothing else has changed (well, apart from the regular microsoft updates but everyone gets those).

Yes, but never two on one occasion and then it didn't work on other boards! This thread seemed to use up my thanking quotient (I was using it as a test, LOL).
