Australia 2010

Hello all,

Just after some advice if anyone can help!

We are going to Australia in July next year for a wedding and have found quite a few good prices for flights but have also been told by a few companys that all the airlines release more fares around 15th November. Basically we are wondering if its best to book now or wait and see what happens and run the risk of prices going up!

Also the quotes we currently have are with qatar or Etihad, has anyone got any feedback on these airlines as we have never flown with either of them. Thanks!

  • I'm going too in July, coz I'm getting married in Cairns!! we are there for a month.

There are 14 of us, and like you, we dont know when to book. Flights are coming up between 1200 and 1400 gbp flying from Manchester to Cairns, and this price hasnt shifted for the last month or so.

Its hard to know when to book. If you pick a date in June instead of July the flights decrease by 300 pounds! Unfortunately we have to fly end of July - kids school and work commitments.

    Anyone got any tips?

  • We have to go in July also due to school holidays etc.It is just madness the difference in prices a month earlier! At the moment the cheapest quote i have is £2377 for 2 adults and a child to Melbourne flying with qatar which is a very good price for the time of year but a few weeks ago they were cheaper again so question is do we book now or see if the next lot of fares released are any better! Just a tip to if you search around for the cheapest flight you can find online and take it to flight centre they guarentee to beat it or you fly free so worth a look.We are working with them at the moment and they have been really helpful but cant confirm what we have been told elsewhere.

I'm just thinking outside the box a little here but have you thought of a 'round the world' ticket? We had a friend that came to stay with us from Melbourne and it was cheaper for him to book a RTW ticket and he got to see other countries too.

Also, when looking for flights to Australia, try getting quotes flying to Melbourne or Sydney, as there are often a lot more flights into those airports. You can easily get connecting flights in Australia through either Qantas, Virgin Blue or Jetstar if you manage to get a good price on a flight into another city.

I know there was great pricing on Manchester to Melbourne recently with Etihad, might be worth a look?

Manchester - Cairns is an odd route so there will probably be limited options and therefore higher prices. London to Sydney/Melbourne is the most common and therefore the most competitive on pricing. It maybe worth looking at this with then an internal flight Sydney - Cairns (but this will add significant flight time to the trip).

Unfortunately July will always be expensive with UK school holidays

    Hi,

I've just posted on a similar thread to do with multi centre flights/hol - similar to round the world flights.

We found a really good 21 nights itinerised trip which included all flights (return from London and all internal), accommodation, and the wedding itself for about 3,500 each. Starting off in Melborne and ending up in Bangkok. Found it on a site called oztalk.co.uk - emailed them two days ago but not heard anything and there wasnt a tel number and the dates on the site were all from 06/07 so unfortunately its a no go.

I just find it so complicated doing it all yourself - and we've never been to Australia before so it's hard to know where to go, when and for how long! Want to find a brilliant company who can sort everything out, but still at a decent price! When you're having to arrange a wedding as well as the honeymoon (holiday) it gets a bit too much.
