John Lewis Kitchens

Has anyone any experience of purchasing a kitchen from John Lewis please? Can you get them to reduce their original quotes in the way you can with the likes of B&Q, Magnet etc? So far I've only got as far as enquiring the cost of specific units in the range I want, as you have to pay £50 for their designer to measure and 'design'. (Deducted from price only if you make an order.) And I have already decided on my 'design' and had measurements done by other companies. Any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA.

Which range is it? Lots of John Lewis kitchens are made by a company called Mereway which is stocked by lots of independent kitchen people who are likely to come in cheaper than John Lewis will.
If you go on the Mereway website they will send you a list of local suppliers.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Hi Freebie Freak
The Felisa range from John Lewis is their true handless range, you can have it using any of their range of flat panel doors. John Lewis own brand kitchens are made for them by Mereway. There are plenty of independent kitchen studios across the country that sell Mereway kitchens (like us);) . The product is identical except for the branding labels. There is one difference though, you get a 5 year guarantee on a John Lewis kitchen and 10 years on a Mereway from an independent. Hopefully you should get a better service and design from an independent kitchen speacialist as that is what they do rather than the likes of John Lewis that sell everything.
You ask about discounts - when it comes to mid market kitchens and above generally retailers loose the 'discount' marketing bull s**t, because everything is made to order so everything has a cost price to produce and most retailers like us take our buying in price, add our operating profit margin and then this gives our retail price. Its really quite simple as the buying in prices only really fluctuate with the general anual price increase and not by fictitous 'sale events'.
Additionally John Lewis are 'never knowingly undersold' but as you technically can only buy a John Lewis kitchen from John Lewis they have kind of got that one covered. So there really is no way of getting John Lewis to drop their prices on kitchens.
Hope this helps.
