I was told not gluten before 6 motnhs (hence why sonme first stage baby food is gluten free, for early weaners), after that they can safely have everything, inc nuts, except honey which isn't safe until after a year old. And Spud, who is comming upto 10 months now, happily eats our normal sized wholewheat pasta shells, I just chop them in 4 after cooking. Sorry, but can't understand what all the fuss is about:confused:

There are a lot of people, my own mum included who will say 'we used to feed our babies everything and they were fine' but were they REALLY fine?

When i was growing up there were lots of children I knew with excema and many many babies were (and still are) referred to as 'sicky babies'. There were and still are reasons for these things - most of them linked to food or types of food. A change in diet transformed my baby from a 'sicky' baby with all sorts of stomach and 'colicy' problems to a happy baby. Subsequent testing has revealed cow's milk protein intolerance. The only solution to this is a change in diet to foods not containing cow's milk.

There are many adults today who have gluten or wheat allergies that were not picked up when they were children - allergies that will have gotten worse over time BECAUSE they went undetected.

So please, resist the urge to make unsubstantiated ignorant comments - not all children were perfectly healthy in the 'good old days', many will have had these allergies it's just that back then noone had the knowledge!
