Boosting Ebay sales / beating fees

I always start at 99p, best way to get people watching and works with psychology of people watching and thinking they will get a bargain and then getting competitive... Have rarely actually had to sell it for that little0

The photos look good and as long as you keep them small enough for people on slower ISPs to open I think using photobucket is an excellent idea.
Since you have put your id up might i make a comment please? You need to rethink your despatch times, you are currently at 4.4 stars which means your visibility is poor and you are running the risk of a seller warning.
Ebay now rank sellers by way of stars (and I assume you check your expanded dashboard as well for 1 or 2 * warnings?) and dropping below 4.7 will start to endanger you. 4.4 is usually considered the absolute lowest you should ever get to and maybe it might be an idea to get some very quick sales now that the despatch times stars have been disabled due to the sales.
Hi,
I'm very new to Ebay so would appreciate some advice as to how I view my expanded dashboard and where I can see how many stars I've got.
Sorry if it's a dumb question.
Thx0 -

Not a dumb question at all and being ebay it's not easy to work out where they hide things.
OK, log safely into ebay and go to your selling page- at the top there is a tab that says 'account' hover your mouse over that but Don't click on it. You should get a drop down box and from that choose seller dashboard.
near the top of that page is the statistics box, my busines sone currently show the following:
Item as described4.940.00% (0)
Communication4.950.00% (0)
Dispatch time4.860.00% (0)
Postage and packaging charges4.770.00% (0)
ideally you want the first percentage to always be above 4.600 and the figure in brackets to be nil. My statistics show that my weakest area is p and p charges as I am a smidgen under 4.8 stars now, but that is acceptable and since a lot of my items are free postage there is little I can do to improve it anyway.
If there is any figures in brackets then it means you have a 1 or 2 star rating left
Then you cna look for a longer period by going down the page a bit and clicking on 'see your performance' that hsows your 12 month ratings.

Hi,
Thx for responding.
I must be having a thick moment, I'm logging in and going to my ebay, from the my ebay tab at the top right hand corner I'm clicking "selling" but I can't find and account tab at the top ?
There is an account tab next to "activity" & "messages" tabs on the left hand side and if I hover a drop down appears but there's no "seller dashboard" option.
Where am I going wrong ?
Thx0 -
I've also noticed that ebay have set the maximum postage as FREE for quite a few items like books / cd's / dvd's, which has meant the postage needs to be included in the selling price. I quite often stick stuff on for 99p to avoid listing fees but this isn't always possible if the postage is going to be more, so again does anyone have tips for getting round this?
This is something that really grates with me too, especially e.g. when it's a dvd box set and the maximum p&p is still set to FREE ! Perhaps slipping it in as a different category would get round it ?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

You then run the risk of a seller perfomance warning for using the wrong categories and posisbly worse than that is that your stuff won't get seen by people casually browsing for DVDs.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It's probably me, I'm known for confusing people!
Assuming you are a seller (and that's my daft question for the day!) try going into summary and then scroll down and near the bottom of that page there is another link to your seller dashboard.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I've had a bit of success getting round the FREE postage.
If ebay force me to give free postage I choose the slowest and most pathetic delivery method listed, but add an extra postage option which you charge what you like for.
So you can have
Option 1 Royal Mail 2nd Class standard: FREE
Option 2 Royal Mail First Class Recorded £2.50 (I keep this realistic)
It also helps to have something in the listing advertising this premium service.0 -
Do you get many buyers dim enough to pay an extra £2.50 to maybe get their book a whole 1 day earlier? All my items go 2nd class as astandard and a lot of them arrive next day anyway.
As a strategy I think it might need a bit of work.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I think the phrase used was "I've had a bit of success getting round the FREE postage. " So it would depend on how you define the words "bit" and "many".
Apart from that, for some people is is not the speed of delivery that counts, but the way it is delivered. Some posties will leave parcels on the doorstep if they don't need a signature and won't fit through the letter box. These can get stolen and the buyer has to wait for a replacement. For some it is easier to have them sent recorded so the postie leaves a card and they can collect it from the sorting office. All my items go 2nd class as astandard and a lot of them arrive next day anyway.
How many people have not bought from you because they prefer things sent recorded delivery? You'll never know, will you?As a strategy I think it might need a bit of work.
Why? It's an option offered, you can't work on it, you can only offer it or not offer it. If you don't offer it then nobody will take it up, if you do offer it someone might.0
