new tv cannot connect

we have been trying for the past 3 hours to connect our new samsung tv through our ntl box ,screen keeps coming up no signal we have followed the instructions over and over again and nothing happening any help would be really appreciated hubbys voice is now getting into the high decibel range.

does it turn in via a normal aerial ??
does it display a picture if you connect it straight to a DVD player or VCR
how does the NTL box connect ?? if scart ar you hitting th "AV" btton on the TV remote to switch to an AV connectionEx forum ambassador
