camping in a tent with stove - like Ray Mears

Did anyone see the Ray Mears programme the other evening and see him camping in a forest in Canada, in the snow, in a big tent with a woodburning stove in it? It looked wonderful! We'd love to do something like that (not necessarily in Canada - Scotland would do!!). Anyone got any ideas or suggestions? Thanks so much!

Only kidding, there are some beautiful places in the Lake District. Don't worry about having to pay to camp, so long as you abide by local bylaws (usually things like don't litter etc) you can camp wherever you like except for private land.

If you choose to go further afield i can personally recommend Colorado in the US, or my favourite winter destination on earth - Lake Tahoe.

I am still trying to work out how he managed to carry the tent, the stove and chimney plus his sleeping gear in that little rucksack he was carrying, I reckon it must be like a Tardis.:D

I was in the States the other week laid watching Bear Grills v the Wild - I say this because we dont get it in the UK.

Anyway, it was shocking, basically it was him trying to survive in the wild. He is in Russia and its - 40 degrees. He just happens to find a shack, which just happens to have ski's in it......... Then when he gets to a waterfall which is a 100ft drop.... There just happens to be a tree easily accessible...... Im sure you get the jist.

Didn't see it- but it wasn't a Yurt or somesuch was it? We are incredibly lucky to have anthropologist neighbours, who have friends from all over the world. A couple of years ago, one of them set up a Yurt- complete with log burning stove, chimney, rugs, cushions & lanterns. He also put up a smaller sweat lodge. I was dubious at first, but they press ganged me and the drinks in the yurt followed by an hour in the sweat lodge was one of the most amazing experiences ever- it was brilliant. :T

Sorry to disappoint folks but it was ridge tent, possibly may have just slept two or three at a push especially if one did not mind a rather warm bum.:p

It did have a hole in the canvas for the chimney to go through, wonder if it was flame proof and what health and safety may have thought of it.:D

    Was it one of these?

I'd love one but can't find a UK source.
  • I saw it, and it looked dead cozy....

It was a bit like this one.
