Ailienware is proberbly the only place you will be able to customise a laptop with highend graphics but they are very expensive £2500+ for somthing decent for gaming that will be good for a few years
I was thinking you could get decent pc for gaming at home in a smallish sized case, nice flat screen and also buy a reasonable laptop for use on the road for less than £2500 but the laptop wouldnt really be capable of playing the games0 -
Alienware do look pretty though
I was having a look at alienware and dell on ebay. But the cheaper ones are coming from Hong Kong (although saying Halifax) and the seller seems to be listing them under several different IDs, so I am sure there is something fishy going on. Seems unlikely to be a genuine deal for £22 :-)

does it have to be a laptop??
cos he could build a desktop system for considerably less.
you say his current is dying slowly, by which I presume you mean the comp itself, so if the monitor is still good he coulb put together a new system for between 2 & 3 hundred quid (one that could easily handle everquest etc)"If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -
Sorry, yes, meant desktop. He's not getting laptop, however pretty they are, or we will be having major ructions!
An off the shelf would be best so he can have a 1yr g'tee or similar, and so he isn;t messing about with spanners for all eternity....Debt free 4th April 2007.

Off the shelf are great but they are sometimes let down buy using a lower performance part that can cancel out the factt your paying a premium for a high spec graphics card, like a !!!!e power supply or mother board that they can use for the case and the whole range that they sell.
My advice would be to set a budget, then go to the local computer shops and aske them for the spec and component details of a PC to fit the budget, Go to PCworld, dell ect and give them the same option ok dell you will need to do it yourself and see what you can get. if you post your budget on here I am sure some of us can come up with somthing for you to look at just to give you an idea of what is available.
Doing this will give you an idea of how good or bad some of the deals are. buying from Pcworld may be dificult to not buy a monitor most of the packages include a monitor.0 -
Oh lord... I feel like such a mean g/f but he probably isn't able (allowed) to spend more than £900.
His last custom build has been no end of trouble, which is why I want something where we can just phone up the company and say 'take it away and fix it'...
400 power supply blew out 3 times so I think a 550 - 600 is needed. Other than that - clueless!
There isn't a nice easy list of pcs to buy to look at? This is so much more complicated than getting a dvd player...Debt free 4th April 2007.

somebody posted this earlier, specs are pretty good for the price , and has a full year warranty.
I'd flog the card on ebay and buy a better one is all (but it would do), other than that it's good to go"If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -
