The above document is the latest guidance regarding people who had their IS stopped towards the end of last year due to lone parent regulations and their oldest child being 12 (Thnk it was 12).
In a nutshell some people will be able to ask for their IS to be reinstated rather than continuing their claim to ESA or JSA (Assuming they claimed one of these benefits and are still in receipt of them). The document covers more than that. Worth reading if you were put off IS last year/early this year because of the lone parent regulations.0 -

... and who haven't yet made the 39 weeks yet, there is a little bit of hope.
The government looks set to make an announcement tomorrow to help resolve the problems that legislation has brought to those people who were denied help under the 13 week mortgage qualifying period under the "excess income over requirements rule" for Income Support, Jobseeker's Allowance (Income Based) and Employment & Support Allowance (Income Related).
Details are sketchy ... and based on some internal DWP briefing notes which appeared late this afternoon ... but it looks like those who haven't reached the 39 week stage on 05/01/10 will be deemed to have served it, paving the way for help with mortgage interest from the first week of January 2010.
But it looks like that help won't be backdated.
Might be able to update you tomorrow when more information becomes available (it might be out there already somewhere but I'm a bit pressed for time tonight to do the digging about).0 -
In addition, from April 2010, child maintenance will be fully disregarded when calculating all out-of-work benefits. This will allow parents with the main day-to-day care to keep every penny of their child maintenance payments, where maintenance is paid.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, I'm a single parent at college full time (trying to find p/t job too to fit around college/child) but what happens when you stop getting income support as your child reaches the cut off age? Normally I know you claim job seekers allowance but as in full time education I am not classed as available for work so cannot claim this. I'm doing a 2 year course and am on my first year.
I have been told that I will only be able to claim child benefit and child tax credits - so basically I will have max £75 a week to live off - but I get my rent and poll tax paid!
I have been told I need to get a job of 16hrs or more to claim working tax credits - which I already knew and am already trying to do!
Anybody know if the worse comes to the worse what I can do?0 -
Not sure about getting a 16 hour a week job working for someone else, but how about being self employed instead? As long as you work 16 hours a week at it, you can get WTC. There are plenty of people selling at car boots and table sales each week who are going down this route. By the time you include sourcing items to sell, the 16 hour minimum time limit is covered quickly. If you register with the HMRC as a self employed market trader then you become eligible to claim working tax credit.
Once you get working tax credit, you can then claim for housing benefit.
If considering this path, I would wait until you stop qualifying for income support before you do it though, because IS pays more than WTC.0
