  • I have just been looking at Tunisa for our holiday in Sept 2010, and cant decide if we should or not. Reading some absolutey terrible reviews about the place, so will watch this thread with interest. :)
 Any hints/tips advice is appreciated :D

I went with my wife a couple of years ago, and it was OK.

We came across many friendly, helpful people and enjoyed seeing some very pretty places, enjoyed the historical aspects (e.g. Carthage) as well as experiencing a different culture (being a Muslim country). However, we felt that often the tourists were seen as walking moneybags and treated accordingly. We were badgered all the time with offers of goods, camel rides, photo opportunities, etc, which of course they expect a fee for everything. I know this happens to an extent in all tourist places, but we found it particularly irritiating here as it is constant (I've been told it's like Morocco in that sense, if you've been there).

Of course, it didn't help that I also caught E.Coli whilst there, so I'm not exactly rushing to go back...

Just got back from Tunisia yesterday. We went to Port El Kantaoui and stayed with Thomson at the Riu Belle Vue hotel all inclusive. The hotel was very nice, it is rated as number 1 hotel in Port El Kantaoui on trip advisor and I would thoroughly recomend it. Located about an hour from the airport it has a great pool and is on the beach. The room was a good size for 3. You could walk to the Marina (3kms), we got our culture from a half day trip to see the colisseum at El Djem, Carthage can be done in a day as well. Food was good quality but got a little monotonous by the end of the week. A family summer holiday there with kids up to about 11 would be brilliant. Some of the other hotels looked a bit ropey, but the Belle Vue was surprisingly good.
  • Also stayed at Riu Bellevue, loved it and would go back.
  • Far too much hassle for my liking.

  • Me and OH went to Port El Kantaoui in Feb and stayed in Hotel Riveira, to be honest it was just for a weeks break so we didn't expect too much. The people there do hassle you a lot to buy things, we had one guy shouting "buy hash?" and following us around the marina.... bit weird!! The hotel and the staff were lovely though. Personally I wouldn't advise it if this is going to be your only holiday of the year!
