I think the thanks are mainly due to competition threads, recently discussed on here.

Anyway is it a competition? Who cares on how many times anyone is thanked? Unless they can be exchanged for Tesco clubcard points of course...

I do have a (small) problem with people posting purely to get thanks though

What sort of problems? I hate IE, I find Firefox excellent, especially with the Adblock Plus add-on.

Not to mention Xmarks which allows you to sync your bookarks/passwords over multiple PC's! IE sucks a*s compared to FF!

But they auto update so why would you need to?
Not all security programs have automatic updating/alerts (particularly some free ones). Some only update signatures, but do not notify when new engine versions are released.

It is also important to keep many non-security programs up to date, to patch vulnerabilities.

Not to mention that not all updates are problem-free. Also for the change-logs.

    Firefox auto updates
CCleaner tells you if theres an update

Common sense would tell me if there was a problem with the update or not

Also even if a program is automatically updated and your version doesn't match the published version then you may want to know why. Discussion related to updates can be found on techie forums here or other sites where you may discover the answer to your problem when other members discuss their experience(s).

(PS your starting to get on my nerves now so this is my last post on this thread ive also put your name on BLOCK) so i cant see any of your posts.
