Enclosing a recessed front door

I was just wondering if anyone knew how much approximately it would cost to enclose a recessed front door way to make a porch. The area in front of the doorway has a roof, both sides and tarmac on the floor, so essentially we only need the front bit (if that makes sense)
We're not bothered for any thing fancy like lighting or heating in there, just a secure enclosure for wellies, coats etc
Would we need planning permission for this? A lot of other houses on the estate were built with a porch, and it would be done in keeping with the style of the house

what are the present sides made of?
a chippy would charge about 500/1k quid to fill in the front and install a door.
but you could buy a new upvc porch for 1500/2000 quid.
