Provisionary Safe is how safe?

How safe are you if you are provisionary safe? alot of people have said that after they have done their initial consultation then if you are safe thats it but has anyone been provisionary safe and then they had to turn around and tell you that its going to be you who is made redundant? thanks

Yes - provisionally safe is usually a term used when say 2 jobs have gone and 8 people are doing the same job. The Company selects the two people to lose their roles by use of a selection scoring matrix. Once complete the two people affected are informed that they are still at risk (subject to consultation to find ways to retain the roles) but they have the right of appeal. The rest of the 8 will be told they are provisionally safe.
If one or both of the people still at risk identify a flaw in the selection process and a rescoring takes either one of them out of the bottom 2 then obviously someone else takes their place hence being only provisionally safe. That person would also be given the right of appeal.
It very rarely happens because scoring is usually against a number of measured criteria and the best examples are usually completed by more than one person.
