Payment refused although money to cover bill

in Credit cards
I just tried to pay a bill online, to a credit card, using my Visa Debit card and when I went through the password stage I got a notice stating that the bank had refused to pay it as my ceiling limit had been reached. Never had that before, I though I could pay any amount or am I limited to £300 a day like with the ATM. When I tried again it said the same amount had already been submitted and asked if I wanted to continue. Anyone else had this?

I wish I could be more helpful, but in truth I've never had a problem doing just that. I wonder if it's linked to the type of account used. Does a lesser amount still go through? Other than calling the bank, I'm unsure what else to try, and that's always my last resort!0

I'm assuming that you've never tried to pay that much using your Debit card before? (Or at least not for a while.)
Just ring your bank up to let them know that the payment would be a legitimate one, and ask them how to increase the limit.
Also get them to confirm (get the name of the person you speak to, and the date/time) whether or not the first request actually went through or not, since you appear to be getting two different replies from your internet banking.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

I called the bank and the credit card company and they both said that they couldn't access their systems at that moment as they were both down. I haven't tried to make a payment that big for a while, just want to clear it off before Christmas. I am just going to see if the payment clears and if it doesn't I will just make two smaller payments to cover it instead of the one. Hopefully, it should be ok. Thanks again for your quick replies, appreciate it.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0
