Redundancy consultation period

Hi
Does anyone know what the rules are for a company making LESS THAN 20 people redundant?
I have been told that there is a board meeting at the end of November and that very soon after, we will be told what jobs are being made redundant and who will have to enter selection (job-share and/or similar roles).
I have been told that at that time, the person(s) will be able to engage or not with the process ... so theoretically could leave straight away and get their money if they don't want to go up against the other person.
Is this correct or does consultation start at that point?
Thanks
S

It takes around two weeks for less than twenty redundancies to take place. They should advise you of the selection criteria. There should be a pool for redundancy..ie a number of people who do the same job and they should all be scored on things like timekeeping and flexibility/skill etc. Once the pool has been selected you will have around three meetings where you will have opportunity to offer your ideas to potentially avoid redundancies. Hope this helps.0

Thanks weths.
I don't want to go through selection - I want to leave and was wondering on timescales. This is helpful.

If under 20 people being placed under threat of redundancy then there is no set timecale in employment law.
However a company can still get into hot water for not being able to demonstrate they followed a reasonable process. I tend to work on 10 working days from start to finish being about right for under 20 people but I have also concluded consultation in 5 days or less.
Depends on the circumstances/individuals/risk factors
