The avocados and mangoes always look dire. Oranges are too dry - avoid!0 -
The avocados from Aldi are not too bad though I did find that they were very stringy after previously purchasing these, otherwise they are fine. Incidentally, Kingston-upon-Thames market currently sell avocados 4 for £1.0

Anyone else a little concerned the super 6 are all salad vegetables this week?! when we don't know where the e.coli came from? I know there's no official advice yet but is this an economic use of a surplus of those items or danger money for taking a risk?!0

What Ecoli?
I would be wary of full-scale panic just yet tbh. The only thing I've seen that it's been confirmed in is these cucumbers, so I would be checking if buying them that they're not from Spain.0 -

Don't worry. It's organic cucumbers you have to be concerned about, so a 39p perfectly ordinary cucumber from Aldi should be safe enough.0 -
Latest news this moring was that the spanish cues didn't look like they were to blame, and anyway the super 6 have been on since before this was news so I doubt they are flogging off infected stuff cheap!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

An awful lot of scaremongering being done by the Germans.
The UK retailers are very very strict on food safety, where as Germany and the Eastern Europeans are more price aware.
This statement has been released by The Fresh produce Consortium who are a Industry body for the UK importers and retailers.Update on outbreak of Shiga toxin-producing E.coli (STEC) in Germany
We have been advised there is still no news about the exact source of the contamination. We understand that it is not confirmed whether the EHEC strains on the incriminated cucumbers from Spain match the strains found in infected patients.
Precautionary measures have been undertaken by Germany, other EU member states and Russia. Several Member States are pressing for action from the European Commission to support the fruit and vegetable sector.
The Food Standards Agency has advised us that investigations in Germany and Spain are on-going and that there is no indication of contaminated product in the UK.
We will update members on the statement from the Commission when it becomes available.
We refer you to our previous statement:
FPC Holding Statement
We have prepared the following holding statement to use in response to any queries:
The UK fresh produce industry is aware of the serious outbreak of E.coli which is taking place in Germany. Investigations are on-going to confirm the source of the outbreak, including a potential link to cucumbers imported to Germany from Spain.
The UK authorities are monitoring the situation and whether there are any implications for food distributed in the UK. To date we are not aware of evidence of any link to fresh produce imported to the UK. At this time of the year the majority of cucumbers on the UK market are grown in the UK.
Food poisoning outbreaks linked with the contamination of fresh produce remain extremely rare in the UK. Good agricultural practices, hygiene preparations and packaging minimise the potential for contamination. The fresh produce industry has stringent standards in place to ensure that consumers can enjoy safe, healthy, good quality fresh produce.
Further advice and information to consumers is available from the Health Protection Agency and the Food Standards Agency.
And as a added comment ALL fresh produce should be washed before consuming as a matter of course."Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."
