How infuriating. On Tues, in a moment's healthy eating urge, I bought spring onions for 45p, celery for 65p, beetroot for 75p, tomatoes for 65p and lettuce for 39p.

They saw me coming, so mad with myself now, why on earth didn't I wait!!! I suppose I did get Lebkuchen for 39p so that redeemed things a bit -well we all know chocolate is healthy!

Thanks for the information, I can at least fill the freezer with beetroot and celery.

I freeze a mix of chopped carrots, celery, onion and garlic in a big freezer bag (or several). Home made 'casserole' mix. Just chuck a handful into soups, stews etc, saves a lot of hassle. The beetroot I use in soups, roasted, mashed etc.

None of the above would work in salads though, it would be mushy then, I agree.

Unless it's a different size, Beetroot will be a big drop in price considering the price last week was 75 or 79p. It was cheaper to by the jars.

    Beetroot is 500g
They've put them on the website now, I was in Aldee yesterday before the update.
I buy several beetroot because they are vacuum packed and should have a good date on them too.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

So it's cheap salad stuff until the 13th then folks, beetroot can be used for chutney and celery for soups or casseroles. Tomatoes can be used for chutney too.

I'll be getting swede (it stores well too) and the red onions good for sarnies and chutney. I've just used the last of my 29p carrots and I've still got some 29p potatoes left.
The swede will make Cornish pasties and stew and mashed with potato for cottage pie.
