Sofa Delivery Late - Options?

Hi,
Me and my girlfriend have just bought our first house and moved in a couple of weeks back. We ordered a sofa that stated delivery would be 6 - 8 weeks, we ordered this 8 weeks before we moved in, in the hope it would either have to be delivered before we moved in to my parents house or at the latest it would be ready just as we moved in.
When it got to the 8 week point I rang for an update and was told the manufacturer were waiting on some fabric which they had now got but it had delayed things so it would be ready week commencing 26th October. After not hearing anything from them by towards the end of today, I phoned to check what day it was going to be delivered to be told it is now going to be next week instead which will make it 11 weeks since ordering.
This has been really inconvenient, especially because we don't have an old sofa it is replacing as it is our first house, so we have not been able to use our front room at all and when family/friends etc have come round to have a look there has been nowhere for us to sit.
The advice I wanted really was firstly, in this situation would you be looking to try and get some money knocked off and if so what do you think would be reasonable, the order is for 2 small sofas which are around £550 each.
Secondly, we are contemplating cancelling the order and going elsewhere, if we were to cancel what chance would we have of getting our deposit back. We have paid roughly a £300 deposit on a credit card and then there is a balance of £800 outstanding. If they were to refuse to give us our deposit back is there anyway we could claim on the credit card.
Any advice appreciated.

Not really sure about this, but i would write to them, giving them till say
next week to deliver the furniture (give a particular date) and use the phrase
'time is of the essence' i think its that that covers you if you have not recieved it by then then you can cancel the order and get your deposit back.
I would check with trading standards first but im pretty sure I'm right.
Good luck.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
If it is coming next week why would you wish to cancel ? You will be in the same position of waiting for another to be made/delivered ?
Read the contract you signed it probably covers delays."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Do you think asking for say a £50 reduction would be being cheeky?0 -
I won't neccesarily be in the same position, firstly plenty of sofa companies have sofas in stock ready for delivery and secondly the reason I would contemplate cancelling is as they have not kept to the first 2 dates what is to say next week it won't be put back again.
I'd be wary if I were you, a lot of places will have certain models only, in stock. Tends to be models that they either have on promotion or are trying to bulk sell. Most models will require a wait time.
Son and his girlfriend in a similar situation to you, so I sympathise.
Edit: You posted again whilst I was typing so ignore my warning.
You dont ask, you dont get, but you'll be very unlikely to get a discount.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Nope most manufacturers would agree a £50 allowance as compo, thats not too cheeky at all.
How many weeks will it have been by the time the sofa's are delivered & who is it?£80 in boots vouchers from pigsback.com - Balance: 820pp£15 in paypal from Lightspeed + £30 Halfords Vouchers£36.20 earned from onepoll so far£40 Tesco Vouchers - Valued Opinions:beer:0 -
I would push for some compo too. No its not cheeky but dont come up with the figure first, let them make an offer, you might be surprised.
Been there, done that and they offered me much more than i was angling for
so let them take the lead, if they push you just say i was thinking about £100/
See how it goes and let us know, wont you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
