best resolution/resizing photo

I should know this but well i dont!

i have an image which was originally a raw now a jpg. at the moment its 3872 x 2592 pixels. its 13 x 91 cm at 72 ppi resolution. I want to get it printed onto canvas. Bigger than A4 but without losing any quality. What resolution etc should it be for printing and how can i work out the biggest size without losing quality.

    Its about 10 Megapixels then.

Printing bigger than A4 shouldn't be a problem.

You'd probably get away with 150 dpi on canvas, but 200dpi would give you plenty of scope on a con-tone output.

You don't need to do anything to the image/change res etc, the printer will handle that. If they can't or don't (v unlikely) use multiples of 60 as these are best for printed output, 180 dpi, 240, 300 360 etc.

The pixel dimensions you mention would print perfectly at 14" print and I doubt there would be issue at 18", especially considering canvas texture.

Far more important is the detail in the image. A 10MP image from a DSLR with a quality lens holds many times more detail than that of a 10MP compact camera.

I've printed high quality art from 10MP images before at 20" with pin sharp clarity via pro-output (Loxely), I'm a pro photographer and very fussy about output quality! I've also got an exhibition set from a 6MP DSLR (early tech days!) which are at 12x16 at fantastic quality.

I've also seen huge exhibition prints from 12MP 5Ds at A1 and A2 with no discernible loss in quality.
