E-mail docx attachment

Help needed to open an email docx attachment in Outlook Express. I am running Windows XP 2002 service pack 3. Obviously the pc is too old to be able to open it but I am sure there must be a way to. Thanks

you can download and install the Microsoft compatibility pack from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en

this will allow you to open the MS Office 2007 format documents using older versions of MS Office,

Is there something similar for Publisher? I often have newer versions emailed to me which I cannot open.

This assumes the OP has an older version of MS Word installed of course...

If you do not have a current version of the office products installed then this may not work. An alternative is the office document viewers. On the microsoft site search for word or excel document viewers (sorry, not allowed to post links yet).

Unfortunately there is not a viewer version for publisher documents, but you can get the sender to send in XPS or PDF format which you should be able to open, read and print much more easily.

Thank you so so much. I have downloaded and installed microsoft compatibility pack and have been able to open attachment. Great.
