Using the wireless problem sticky, I have been troubling shooting my OH's laptop.
Weboth have one, mine has internal wireless card and works perfectly.
OH's has a USB dongle that came with our dlink dsl g604.
We've had a load of problems with it, but basically, now the problem is, the wireless connects, and I can ping the google IP address (66.102.9.104) which works, and if I type http://66.102.9.104 into internet explorer, it also works, so I think it must be a DNS problem.
I have done the "ipconfig /release" , "ipconfig /renew"
all that stuff, but I still cant get it to work.
All the settings appear to be the same as my laptop... Am I missing something?
edit : just remembered OH's laptop, she doesnt have "AEGIS Protocol (IEEE 802.1x) v3.1.6.0" in Wireless COnnection Properties. Is that someting to do with it? If so how do I go about fixing that?!!
Thank you ~
Laurie

Have you tried setting a static ip on it, rather then letting it find its own?

Thanks
Laurie
EDIT : I tried setting the ip, default gateway etc as to what it says in my router settings, but then it straight away goes to "The page cannot be displayed" where as before it took a little time, as if it was trying to find it.embarrassed to say I used to work for barclays..sorry0 -
In cmd prompt:-
ipconfig /flushdns
Report back....0 -
It says "Successfully flushed the DNSresolver cache"
but still tries to find webbsite but still "cannot find server"
Thanks for the effort though :-)
i have also tried a cat 5 cable connected the to modem rouer but still does the sameembarrassed to say I used to work for barclays..sorry0 -
Is the laptop connected via wireless? to a router?
And your other P.C is connected to the same wireless network and the DNS works ok on that?0 -
If you have a look at the working connection, copy the information off the wroknig computer, and change the last number of the first ip up by one so for example if the ip address is: 192.168.0.2, on the other computer enter it as 192.168.0.3, but copy the rest of the information as the same
Thanks Tom :-)0 -
yep, both wireless, mine works OH's doesnt.at the same time. I also tried OH's conected by cable at the same time but still doesnt work.
Has to be something on OH's laptop .. right? :-s

Yeh must be laptop. If your p.c works then the router/ISP is fine. I think
if you type
ipconfig /all
what does it show for DNS Server? Can you do that on ur p.c too? Are they the same?0 -
I can't even get it to connect to wireless now. I'll keep trying and post back when I can..~
Thanks
Laurie
UPDATE : Just switched on both laptops, and they both are working fine .. completely stumped.
Virus checking in progress now, as I cannot think of any other reason for the randomness.
Thanks Loads
