I have completed the upgrade on VM website from 20Mb to 50mb by way of a "quick Install"..(You swop your Modem).
Now I have received letter confirming engineers visit & charges of £65.00.
Its a 3 min job!!!
TOTAL SCAM ME THINKS!!!
Speaking to VM on phone "thats how its done sir !!"...Cant get any info from Team ManAgers either..
Any advice info would be appreciated.
Thanx

That doesn't sound right! The equipment is owned by Virgin, so you shouldn't be charged for any new hardware when upgrading, unless they explicitly mentioned a charge when upping your BB service. If I were paying for a faster connection then it should be their responsibility to provide the necessary hardware for me to utilise that service, especially if I don't own the modem. In the same way that they should service the equipment for free when it fails. I would ask for a refund, I suspect an engineer was called out to flick a switch at the junction box on your street to increase the bandwidth, but again I shouldn't have to pay for them to do it. It should be covered by the increased monthly charges.0 -

i have a couple of friends on 50mb and they get in excess of 40MB
i think one topped out about 47MB on a speedtest0 -
I wasn't aware that VM evn did self installs for the 50mb service, iirc it still requires and engineer visit to ensure the signal levels in both directions are ok? (50mb has different signal quality/strength requirements to the lower tiers and the engineer is meant to test that before he leaves).0
