im looking for train travel as cheap as possable from,Darlington to Winchester(avoiding going into london) leaving d/ton on fri 6th nov around 8.am, leaving winchester on sun 8th nov about 3pm, cheapet i can find is, 108 pounds, does any one know if and how to get it cheaper,

Booking earlier might have helped..... Though knowing XC I'm not so sure.
You could play around with split ticketing but there's a massive number of combinations. Birmingham - the obvious place - doesn't work though, or at least not on its own.
Are you eligible for a railcard - senior or YP? It would pay for itself on this journey.0 -
This might not save you money but another route you can try costing up:
Darlington to Alton Hampshire, then bus stop at Alton station catch number 64 or 64X bus heading west to Winchester bus station about 10 minutes walk from Winchester rail station. I think the bus fare is about £5-£8.
Sunday bus timetable might be rubbish for getting home though0 -

If you are prepared to travel via London, you can knock a massive £3 off that fare by using Advance Singles, but even that is not at the times of day you are looking for.
As has already been said, you would've stood a better chance if looking earlier.
