How do I Aproach my Doctor for a note.

It may not do any good changing docs anyway as they have all been told to go easy on the amount of sick notes that are written anyway.
By who? Under what authority?
Got a link to info about it?[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
I've seen no slow down on doctors giving out sick lines to be honest.
I agree with sp1987 though, Cognative Behavioural Therapy can be really helpful, I would and do recommend it. Though I have no medical background and am just passing on my own experiences.
ESA is pretty difficult to stay on, whatever the condition, so I kind of agree with dmg24. Its worth considering the stress that switching between benefits can cause because from my limited knowledge people end up having to claim JSA again shortly down the line. That is in no way meant to put you off, you absolutely have the right to claim the benefit, though the sickline is required after the seventh day, just something to take into consideration0 -
Your doctor will be fully aware of the importance of providing sick notes for ESA.
Mine wasn't happy about dishing them out to me when i was working, even though she admitted i was too ill to work.
But she will write the sick notes with no quibble now as she has too (for me) she knows it's part of ESA to provide sick notes for a period of time.

Actually i have no paperwork, but my money supposedly goes up next week and i have been moved to a grp (i don't remember which one) do i still provide sick notes? been waiting for a something in writing since about Oct 10th ish...all my post is getting to me as normal but nothing from ESA. ESA said a letter would be sent to explain
Anyhoo, OP your doctor knows damn well that part of being on ESA is that they need to provide you with sick notes so that you can claim this money, I have been 100% honest with ESA and as yet not incurred any problems apart from an extremely busy phone line to get in contact with them.Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
Thanks for your messages.
Having a depressive bout like this makes me lethargic, unassertive, and I procrastinate over what others may deem to be very simple and clear cut decisions.
In my mind, I know the only course of action is to make an appointment with the doctor. I feel reassured with what I've read on here with the positive comments and good advice.
Sometimes when you have no one to discuss these things with, a forum like this is extremely helpful.0 -

I had a family member in the same position for a time and they needed to be reminded to get on top of the situation in order to progress with it to stop the ''oh, maybe tomorrow'' excuses we all give ourselves! Do yourself the biggest favour and get onto the ladder of support as quickly as you can, so you can start feeling more able to cope as soon as possible. You are obviously an intelligent person so will have no problem making yourself understood if you can just get it all across
Best of luck!0 -
I read your messages and have just noted it all here. I today have gone on sick with my doctor as I to am on JSA jointly with hubby but I feel at the moment I can not work either cause I have depression and under a lot of stress as my father is also very sick and I am the only one sorting out everything. Plus he lives quite far. I told this to doctor about my depression and he gave me a leaflet with councellor and put me on sick for 2 weeks to start and said he how things go. So I am going to move from JSA to sick. I was reading above from some of you saying that how hard it is to stay on sick now. or ESA as they now call it. God things are so tough now aren't they. Its seems they really want people to suffer and just to get on with it. I mean, the job centre other day gave me this crappy test and I could not concentrate on this as my father is very sick and I am sick myself, so of course I got a couple of questions wrong, and now they said about forcing me onto a literacy and numeracy course. There is no way I can do this with all the stress I am going through. I guess for me to give the job centre the sick cert of 2wks probably will be hassle. But I spoke to a family member and a mate and they told me to just, go for it! And I advise you the same, "go for it! it will probably be a lot of red tape as for you as for me. What isnt these days. But if you really feel you cant work and the dole will shove you onto a course and you will just feel worse if you honestly cant feel that you can cope with it all. How can you do a course when your head is all over the place. As for your doctor. Well he/she sounds like a right !!!! to be honest. Doctors are supposed to be there to help patients not make things worse for them. I know you said its hard for you to change your doctor but you may have no choice if they are not providing the service for your health needs that you really need. I changed my doctor as I was not happy and did not like the attitude of the receptionist of the staff or the doctor there. I went to have my bp checked and he said, this is the job of the nurse not me. I said, well I am here now with you, do you want to check it or not! Cause if not I will go elsewhere! Afterwards I did anyway. I have to travel a bit further now to the doctor I got, but I would rather do that then have a doctor local who does not care. I wonder if you can complain to nhs about your doctor. But dont do it unless you change the doctor, then complain afterwards. It makes me wonder how some of these doctors get these jobs, if they are not good with people then whats the point in wanting to deal with them.0

Would it be possible to get in touch with any local advocacy services or the Patient Liason Services (PALS) http://www.pals.nhs.uk/ ?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
