Lol! Maybe he was just trying to be supportive of your diet???

Well all the houses are now private, and it is a lovely village. 6 out of the 8 are smart, one is a bit blurgh, and one doesnt even have a front fence and the garden is full of toy depris and long grass. We'd want to live there 5 years or so before moving to something else in the village, its only really big enough for one (or two small) child/children, but I don't think prices in 5 years will be lower than they are now. Equally doing all this work should add about 20k to the value, which should cushion any falls.

I think if you're planning to live there for 5years+ you don't need to worry all that much about prices falling as they'll no doubt have picked up majorly again by the time you move out. And like you say, you'll be adding value to the house with the works so it shouldn't matter one sausage!

Sounds like you're doing well with the DooYoo reviews, I'll hop on and rate them in a tick!

Ooooo, just got an email from Asda to say they're going 2 for £7 on their Christmas tins. Yumyum!
  • Hmm it's a difficult one really ... it's an investment for NIM's dad so you can understand him wanting a say in the house, but at the same time I'd be a bit annoyed and probably see it as him sticking his neb in, especially as it's a place he's never even visited!

I wonder if it is a bit of subconscious snobbery - all the Irish I know live in lovely big detached houses - don't know whether that's the norm - so it might be that he doesn't realise just how many people here live in nice ex-council houses - half my town is ex-council and they're lovely streets with lovely people in and TBH I prefer them to most of the flimsy-looking smaller new-builds.

And as for prices, they don't seem to be doing anything anymore! I think it's a really nice village, and he shouldn't have any concerns.

ETA - yum indeed Cinny! Glad I didn't buy 2 for £10 in Tesco now!

I haven't weighed in today I'm sorry. :o It's been a sh!te day. I overslept and then had a load of hassle with presentation groups in uni so that had to be sorted. And I'm knackered after going to bed at 3 on Monday and 1 last night :( Starting WW tomorrow though so that's something to focus on. And I'm teaching reception next week so I'm looking forward to that. :)

I'll 4th the 'Ahhh' about NIM getting you a pamper session, he really knows how to make things right doesn't he! I wish he could give my OH some pointers

I agree! There's a business idea - NIM could travel round the country giving talks on how to be the perfect partner! You'd make loads! :D

I was looking at a DooYoo guide's profile last night and literally every review had a crown! So that's who gets them  and Wendz! :D

And I got those tins for my Mum today. Everyone was crowded round them and on the phone to people asking which tins they wanted. :p

Thing is it isn't an investment for him, the money is a gift to us, so while I can understand him not wanting us to get ourselves into the fiancial mire, its also our decision to make where we want to live and to be honest if he starts trying to decide where we get to live then I'm very tempted to say to NIM we don't want the money, we'll have a higher mortgage and smaller house, but we'll do it ourselves.

I'd agree with that. I have a feeling that my Dad will offer to help with the deposit and I don't know whether that'd be a good thing or not because I know he'd start thinking he had a say in where it is etc. My Nan is already saying where I should and shouldn't live and I haven't even started looking! It's very irritating, so I completely understand why you'd wanna say 'thanks but no thanks' if NIM's Dad gets too involved.

I competely agree with this. I'd turn down the offer of a deposit if it meant the giver got to choose the house. I'd rather do it on my own too, if that was the case.

Haha - Sounds like something I'd do with the tins Zig! Sent my Mum a text about it as she's stressed with work atm so has just about raided the stash of Christmas Tins she had for this year and needs to re-stock!

Probably more for Poolie as it seems geared towards the lads pleasing their missus, but how sweet are some of these?!

I didn't read vary far into these but all apart from 9, 12 and 13 made me want to gag! Not a fan of 'typical' romance at all - good job my fella keeps it simple with the surprise strawberry cables he knows I love :D
