Have you thought about the Aygo? I could've got a newer Aygo for the same price as the Yaris (has lower road tax too), but had fell in love with mines already and couldn't be swayed. One thing about the Yaris (and not that I'm in the back seat often - can't reach the pedals, ha), is when getting out (I have a 2-door version) it's quite high so you don't feel like you're falling out IYSWIM. Good luck with whatever you chose!0

Personally if hes got a new licence I'd go for one 4 or 5 years old as it will cut down on the insurance a bit but they will still be reliable. Both have good records for reliability, vw's have a nicer interior. Just having a look about you can get a decent polo in that age range for abut £4600-£5000, with reasonable milage, 2 owners and a few nice little upgrades on the paint, trim etc, while for a Yaris you're looking at £5,000-£6,000, which really suprises me actually, I thought the Yaris would be cheaper. I looked up the NCAP ratings for you, the Yaris, the Polo, have to say with a little one in the car based just on safety I'd 100% have the Polo, the fact that I prefer the interior of it as well and it seems to be a little cheaper is just a bonus.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Ooh I like the Aygo! They are very nice. We would need to get a 4door for the baby seat and also to carry his drums if there was no room in the boot!Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Thanks Dinah for that. I will defo bear that in mind esp with a little one. I am fond of the Polo as one of my best friends started out with a Polo and we used to whizz everywhere in it

Been looking at those ratings now for the last 15mins, they are really sobering. My car does not score well! Luckily all the ones we are looking at are 5*. End of the day safety is the most important thing to me. Looked up the Aygo, I personally wouldn't since its poor on safety for younger children, plus it is VERY small, the idea of fitting drums in is a bit like the joke of nuns in a phone box!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Will dismiss the Aygo then. To be honest, child safety would be the most important thing for me so it looks like the Polo is a good buy. OH is taking lessons after Xmas so I suppose it all depends on how quickly he picks up driving and passes his test.
It is great to have all these things in mind though. As soon as OH passes his test I will take lessons. Can't afford to pay for both of us!Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Wowzer Dinah - You seem to know everything car wise! If I ever learn to drive, you're the lady I'm coming to when I buy a car
Don't hold your breath though, I hate the thought of driving! (and maybe killing bunnies
)
Oh jeez, remind me never to do the 3 week challenge again! I've completely forgotten not only my bank pin, but also my electron one! In a mild panic, will text OH and see if he remembers0 -

Bails - on the tool bar above where you type there's a little symbol of a 'mountain' with a circle above it. Click on that then just copy and paste the image URL into it. Sorted!0
