Any car hire firms that don't need credit card on collection?

Hi there,
My husband is flying to South Africa and needs a hire car to get up to the wedding he is attending.

My husband doesn't use a credit card, no reason for it, he just has never got one, we always use my card for car hire but I won't be on this trip.

It occurred to me far too late that I should have got him a card on my account, but with the post strike that wouldn't have worked in time.

He is able to book with his debit card, but he needs a CC on car collection. Does anyone know of any companies that will allow the excess print to be taken in advance?

Thanks

Can you not get a 2nd card on your credit card account?

It's highly unlikley that you will find a car hire company who will loan their car out without a credit card unless your husband can offer a sizeable CASH deposit - it would need to be the full amount of the insurance excess + additional fees etc.
Why not talk to one of the big names like Hertz in the UK & see what their policy would be & if they would allow your card to be logged against the hire in SA? Joining a loyalty scheme like Hertz #1 may help ...

Try a pre paid credit card can load a few rand on to cover deposit think you can get one through fatcheese and get the membership fees back.

He flies on thursday - do you know how fast these can be done? can't imagine that fast!!

you have to leave a large cash deposit usually if no credit card can be given

Only thing I can think of is could he take your card ( yes I know what everybody is going to say..) But supposing it was just chip and pin they may not look at the card?

Having hired cars all over the globe i can say that everytime my card has been swiped it has been a signature and not Chip and Pin.

That said ive never hired in SA.
