Had swine flu, don't need vaccination?

I'm pretty sure I've had swine flu earlier in the year, and had to see the practice nurse for help with the awful asthma it left me with. She thought I'd had swine flu as well (after I'd listed my symptoms), but I wasn't actually tested for it because by then it was so widespread - and it was already four weeks after I'd had the flu itself.
Now I'm wondering what happens if/when I am offered the swine flu vaccine by the surgery (I am in a high risk category). I don't think I need it? Is there a test to check whether I have the correct antibodies or not, or will I just have to have the jab anyway (eeek - hate them!)?? Will it make any difference if I've already had the flu anyway?

I've just realised that I meant to post this in the Health forum - sorry! BG please can you move this if necessary.

I've just recovered from swine flu, wasn't bedridden because I couldn't breathe while lying down. Was more comfortable dozing in chair. I've also had the following chest infection treated with antibiotics.
If you've had swine flu then you'll have built up an immunity to it and so, no need for further vaccination.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
Before I found wisdom, I became old.0 -
Not always true neneromanova - I've known people who were swabbed (back when still swabbing) who came back positive for swine flu and who weren't that bad. There are different severities
Blondeheadon - it's up to you if you have the vaccine, noone can force you - however it probabky would still be recommended0 -
Yes, the infection was mild for a flu - that's why I didn't go to the doctors while it was still in the main stages, because I didn't think it was a "flu". However I had a dreadful and long-lasting sore throat, and then it left my lungs in a very poor state (bad asthma, worst I've ever had, steroids for the first time ever). All the other symptoms were 'swine flu' too, I just didn't realise it until afterwards!
Like you margaretclare I wasn't bedridden because I couldn't breathe if I lay in bed - much better propped up.
Hmm - looks like I may not get out of having a jab after all - that's a shame....0 -
There are different strains of swine flu, even though you have already had it, it doesn't mean you can't get it again. You should definitely have the jab if it is offered to you.0
