Money-saving in Dublin

Am off to Dublin tomorrow for 4 days. Anyone got any money-saving tips for me? I'm aware the prices in bars and even in supermarkets for alcohol are pretty high, so am packing a litre of smirnoff in my case for drinks in hotel before going out.
We'll be walking most places so won't be shelling out for LUAS or DART tickets...

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0

It was a few years ago when we were last in Dublin but I remember that the tourist office sold little guide books to do your own walking tour (we did a music based one- U2 and all that)- whilst the book costs it's chaeper than an organised tour and can do it at own pace (and stopping off for some guiness along the way!)
Also if flying don't get taxi from airport- get airport bus or cheaper still a regular bus service

Best money saving tip for Dublin - Don't go.
Its hugely over priced.
That said when you get to the airport you will see a tourism box. You can buy pass (different lengths of days) which gives you free/reduced entrance costs to the attractions and also you can get free bus travel.
The card will save you an absolute fortune.
Another good one is to have a few drinks before you go out, Beer is stupidly expensive in Dublin so a few cans or a bottle of wine before you go out and thats a couple of pints saved, prob amount to about £20.
Im no fan of Dublin, i think its a dull place which is about 30 years past its sell by date. The city oozes arrogance and rather than being a huge modern International city (like you would think) instead it is an overpriced student fest of a city no different to Sheffield.0 -
If you want to go to the Guinness Storehouse - book online before you go - saves you 10% and you get to skip the queues... I was was sooooo pleased of this when I went for my 30th a few years back (over Easter weekend!) the queues went round the corner. We just walked to the front and was able to get in straight away.0
