OK seen as people on benefits only claim the least they are entitled to.

You are not entitled to income support if your partner is working and earning over a certain amount, of which, those figures in the OP are over that amount.

You are not entitled to jobseekers allowance if you are not actively seeking a job, of which, a mother brining up a baby is not seeking a job.

You are kind of proving you are not willing to use actual, real life income here. You would prefer to just make things up then when someone corrects you, simply start all this to try and call them stupid.

You are using houses that are practically falling down to say they are affordable.

It's time to get real! You will moan that I'm arguing, having a go, etc. I'm not. You are simply making things up as you go along pretending you know all about all this when you clearly don't, and then saying this made up benefit payment will allow the couple to buy a house.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGG

My point was the average full time point for the said areas was £25.5K from the ONS office stats

Which is surely enough for a single person to rent.

    OK

Shall I make it how some of you want the thread to be done.

Maximum full time wage is £13K
    Minimum rent is £600
    Purchase price is £200k

    Is this falling down £90K
    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-27492422.html?locationIdentifier=REGION^82056&sortByPriceDescending=false&minBedrooms=2&displayPropertyType=houses&radius=10.0&oldDisplayPropertyType=houses&pageNumber=3&fromSummary=true&backToListURL=/property-for-sale/find.html%3FlocationIdentifier%3DREGION%255E82056%26sortByPriceDescending%3Dfalse%26minBedrooms%3D2%26displayPropertyType%3Dhouses%26radius%3D10.0%26oldDisplayPropertyType%3Dhouses%26index%3D20

    Or this £100K
    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-17922167.html?locationIdentifier=REGION^82056&sortByPriceDescending=false&minBedrooms=2&displayPropertyType=houses&radius=10.0&oldDisplayPropertyType=houses&pageNumber=3&fromSummary=true&backToListURL=/property-for-sale/find.html%3FlocationIdentifier%3DREGION%255E82056%26sortByPriceDescending%3Dfalse%26minBedrooms%3D2%26displayPropertyType%3Dhouses%26radius%3D10.0%26oldDisplayPropertyType%3Dhouses%26index%3D20

Are you some kind of fool who can not see further than their own view on things?

No ones argued that's not enough for a single person to rent.

Only corrections came when you started talking only about full time wages instead of the actual average in the OP, talking about property prices 10 miles out of the ones discussed in the OP, and saying it's ok for families as they will get help with the outgoings in reply to thrugel.

Now it seems to have simply swung back to single people only. Theres more than single people out there! Hence the MP's going off to discuss all this today.

    I give up:(
we went over how people very rarely live in and work in the same town and something like outside money or commuting is holding up the market.

You narrow mindedness fails to retain any previous points raised.

I would like to point out that Bridgwater does NOT count as part of the South West.

The fact that you get there by exiting at Junctions 23 & 24 of the M5 is irrellevant.

Bridgwater and the whole of the Sedgemoor area are actually in Essex !!!! (near Maldon and Heybridge to be exact)

I am used to the fickle nature on here. Post funny stuff, the more mainstream, the better - get lots of thanks. Post meaningful stuff - only rewired thanks. Post challenging stuff - no one gets it.

    Um.

Did you hear the one about the gay BTL landlord and his membership of the Nazi party?

Me neither - I guess he kept that quiet.

post nothing fan base moves on. ;)

I think the main posts of yours that I avoid thanking are the nasty ones, not the challenging or meaningful ones. Same with other posters. Oh, and the ones I haven't read.

why!? we're not in a communist country where the state owns everything. people should be free to buy what they like when they like (within the laws of the country that is)

I would agree with this chucky, as I think people should be allowed to make choices that suit them, as long as it's within the law.

On the other hand, I have a friend who lived in Cornwall for a while, who saw the problems faced there due to second home ownership.

So, do people do what suits them or what suits the community as a whole?

I said social housing is the answer for the lower paid, owning is not a right it is something that you can do if you can afford it.

Agree with this too, and therefore your comments that more social housing should be built, as it isn't as easy to be housed by councils or housing associations now.

I found out the other day that there is a chance our homes will be demolished, so the council will have to rehouse us, when there isn't as much housing stock available.

There isn't anything wrong with the houses, but they want to widen the road. So apart from rehousing an entire street, they will also have to pay all the tenants around £4.000 and those who own, the market value plus around £4.000

Given the lack of housing stock, you would think the road widening wasn't that important [but that's probably a different topic :)] Although, if I haven't been rehoused already I wont have to worry about the cost of new carpets and curtains :D
