£600 spent on rent is still 40% of disposable income.
But would a single person really need to rent a 3 bed house?
If it was a single wage with family they would get additional help.
Or it would be a full time and a part time wage + benefits.
Never understood why single person = 3 bedroom house.

Wage stats are here.
West somerset seems to have a average full time wage of nearly £30K

Tax credits, child benefit, etc. are you just after an argument or just being a bit simple on this point graham?0 -

Tax credits wouldn't get them much at all. £10 a week or something.
Child benefit, yes, they will get it, but not really going to help pay the rent is it?
Quit the argument stuff. I only asked a question based on what you stated.0 -

Look into it before you spout so much rubbish. It is way more than that.
Considering you moan about your friend who is a single mom and say how she gets over £25K a year you should be an expert on benefits.
But it seems you are just a daily mail reader and have no clue on who gets what just what the press tell you.0 -

The numbers I am finding in the report are more in line with the opening post.South Somerset: £214,163 average house price (11.6 x £18,486 average income).
Taunton Deane: £212,055 average house price (11 x £19,219 average income).
Sedgemoor: £194,243 average house price (10.2 x £19,022 average income).
North Somerset: £212,253 average house price (9.6 x £22,178 average income).
Why does anybody need a bigger house than actually need? An average 3 bed house is hardly a mansion. But would a single person really need to rent a 3 bed house?

I would say look at full time, they all seem to be around £25.5K for those areas (but way from the point)
But Sureley a single person renting a 3 bed house is madness?
A) you are paying for space you dont need.
you are stopping people who need three bed houses renting thus pushing rental prices up, housing demand ending in HPI!
It is rather an ironic point considering the thread.0
