Electoral Roll

We recently bought an apartment in June after renting. I was on the electoral roll at my previous address. Shortly after moving here I registered online to be on the electoral roll here.

After checking with Experian it shows that I am still not registered on the roll. Does anyone how long it takes to show up on my credit file?

I really do not want to apply for a credit card until it shows up on there.

The period before new entries/amendments are added to the electoral roll varies during the calendar year. It's possible to enrol each month from early December until mid-August, using the rolling register procedure Unfortunately for you, there's a blind spot from mid-August till mid-October. This is because borough-wide audits are undertaken annually in August. So, additions made now will not appear on the ER until 1 December 2009.

On 1 December, you may want to contact the electoral services department of your local council to ask when the credit reference agencies are next updated, as frequency varies a few days between boroughs. Then check your electoral status is correctly recorded on credit files at your current address before you apply for a new credit card.

Depends what you mean by "shortly after moving"

Had you registered at any time up to mid-August, your details would be showing on credit files. If you missed the mid-August deadline, your entry would not appear until the next update, which is published on 1 December 2009.

I think that's wise. Everyone's credit rating improves no end once registered ;)

It probably was sometime in August. I don't remember the exact date. I remember receiving mail from the council about it,and it said I did not have to do anything if I registered online.

Not unless she's registered her details.

If in doubt, I'd inspect the electoral roll. She can do this at your nearest public library.
If not, I'd act sharpish. If she enrols before the mid-November deadline, her entry will appear on the next update, which is published on 1 December 2009 ;)
