I had the same wirh my Bose headphones where the 3.5m jack was temp working and not. They said the same to me and I said I bought them in waitrose Canary Wharf( which I did), sent them off and they replaced them. I would get back onto them and say you bought them direct with Amazon and not a market place seller

Uh huh. "Dear Sennheiser, since you told me you would repair the headset I wrecked if I bought it from an authorized dealer, I have remembered that I actually did buy it from an authorized dealer. I was just kidding when I told you I bought it from an Amazon marketpalce dealer. Headset enclosed. Please repair for free under warranty."

I dont see how Amazon would ever allow fakes to be put into circulation or even allow third-party sellers to sell fakes on their website. Had I bought these from Ebay, then fair enough, but fakes from a third-party seller endorsed by Amazon seems just a bit wrong. So theirfor, I refuse to believe that these are fakes.

You should hope that they are fakes. You don't have any comeback against anyone to repair accidental damage, but if they are fakes you can ask Amazon to investigate as other posters have mentioned.

I'll bet most customers who buy Sennheiser products from Amazon sellers don't realize that they are losing the protection of the warranty. Maybe it applies to other manufacturer warranties also. Amazon needs to make sure customers are aware of this. I would get in touch with Amazon if I were you.

I think the line about items being POSSIBLY fakes is a way to cover a slightly more complicated situation similar to what Fuji had to do with cameras.

Basically, when you buy a product in the UK, part of the price goes towards paying the manufacturer's costs of the warranty.

For instance, let's say for sake of argument, if you were to buy a TV for £500 £100 of that goes towards the warranty.

This means it's also more expensive for companies to buy the products in. So what a lot of companies did was buy Fuji cameras from places like india (i think that's where it was) where they don't have warranties included in prices.

This meant that they could buy the items cheap and sell them much lower than domestic competitors. When they went wrong and customers sent them to fuji to fix, fuji was losing money on every repair.

So what they did was identify the serial numbers of the products manufactured for sale in UK and told all sellers that if they were to sell cameras whose serial numbers were outside the approved range, they wouldn't repair under the UK warranty.

I wouldn't be surprised if sennheiser is having similar issues and is choosing only to honour their warranty through retailers they KNOW are getting stock from the right place.

The warranty isnt void because there was never a valid warranty on them as the warranty is for goods supplied only be authorised retailers. Companies can attach whatever terms they want to a warranty.

I.e This warranty will only be valid if you bring them to our premises wearing pink underwear and nothing else. - perfectly legit

But it doesn't look as if it's a warranty claim. Sennheiser (from what I can gather) were offering a goodwill gesture and now realise that the item was not from an authorised dealer.

Yes, but I think vyle was talking about reasons why Sennheiser (and maybe other manufacturers) might be choosing to restrict the warranty to products bought from an authorized dealer. It's not really relevant in the present case (since the OP would have had no right to have it repaired under warranty, even if he had bought from an authorized user), but it's very relevant to anyone who might be thinking of buying from a non-authorized dealer. Something else to check before buying anything.

It's easy. You sign up for an Amazon Seller account, list your price and stock levels against their products. Then someone buys them and Amazon sends the seller an email and a despatch note. The seller prints off the despatch note and sends the goods straight to the customer. At no point do Amazon even see the goods, with the exception of "fulfilled by Amazon" products.

Any competent computer / video / tv repair shop would be able to replace or repair the lead. You could have them working again by the end of the week.
