Microsoft Windows XP Home/Professional - Best Price?

Hi everyone

Seems I need to get myself a copy of XP. Ideally want Professional, but cheapest I've seen it for is £90 which is a bit out of my price range just now!

Any assistance much appreciated!

Cheers

Matt

Ebuyer has XP home for £54.85 inc VAT, but you'll need to buy a keyboard or a mouse as its the OEM version, also add shipping.

Might also be worthwhile looking at XP Media Center 2005, I read somewhere that its based on XP professional, but costs less.

Sorry but from what Ive seen of Vista MS can keep it until all of the security holes have been filled in, preferably with the new MS Patch Cement ©. ;)

to be fair to M$ they've pushed vista back a couple times already, with the aim of ironing out those bugs that we'd expect from a new OS.

of course I don't expect it to be perfect when it's finally released, but the beta2 is promising :)

@ campervanman: so long as you don't plan on running a DX10 GF card with a dual core 64bit cpu , win XP pro will do you nicely for a few years yet :)
and around £90 is about as cheap as I've seen Pro in the UK as well

We shouldnt need to expect it though, I mean C'mon MS dont even think about a release until its right, I mean its a bit like buying a car then having to wait a week for the gearstick before it runs properly.

What users have to realise is that sending off the error reports is unpaid work for MS, its about time they sorted all or most of the glitches first like they can do with the majority of software i.e games etc etc.

it is the nature of computing though that things are constantly evolving around us, and therefore you really can't expect one single system to take into account all of the things that every comp programmer comes up with.

I'm not defending M$, far from it, I'm just saying that this time they seem to be taking the time to get a few crucial things right that they weren't bothered with with previous releases, rather than just rushing the OS out and cashing in like they did with ME and Xp (xp's requirments on launch were way above most normal users).

(can't believe I just found myself defending M$. I'm depressed now)
