Also single, just turned 40 and - perhaps it's the mid-life crisis kicking in - I fancy a couple of trips. I've just booked Cambodia and Thailand with Explore for January (and I'm TERRIFIED) and I'm thinking of doing Africa with Intrepid in March though that with a friend.
Any ideas or advice?0 -

Any ideas or advice?. Why are you terrified? Is there anything you are worried about in particular? It will be awesome. I have travelled through those countries by myself without a tour and even then it was easy as pie. You will meet loads of people, always have someone to talk to and if you don't like someone you never have to see them again anyway:rotfl:.

I live in Cambodia just now, I work for a charity which clears landmines (don't worry, your tour will go to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap/Angkor temples, not the rural areas which are still mined!) - I think you'll have a great time. I came here as a solo backpacker 10 years ago and spent 2 weeks travelling in Cambodia and Thailand. If you've booked with a group like Explore you don't have the hassles of finding places to stay when you arrive in a town, and don't have to haggle over transport costs, deal with corrupt officials etc. January is a good time of year to visit too, it's the "cold" dry season now (by cold, I mean not unbearably hot and humid - it's still hot by British standards!).0
