0% credit card

got to pay £4800 on holiday soon got the cash to pay for it,
but was thinking of getting a credit card to pay for it.
any advice on which card to get, for the longest payback period ?
Also is there any way around not paying cc charge of 2.5% on payment of holiday. which works out at £120

get a virgin card, do a balance transfer into your bank account and pay for the holiday with a debit card.

If they've got the cash then whats the point? A cash transfer is at 4% so that'd end up being more expensive plus they'd have no protection should things go wrong.
If you have the money then I'd say put all that into a savings account, pay for it on the credit card and try to make up the fee with the interest on the savings. This way you'll also get the section 75 protection. Though reading your post it seems that what you have in mind. Best cards for purchases are 12 months at best, see the Best Cards for Purchases section.
Also don''t forget that, even if you don't get the limit you want, as long as the whole purchase is over £100 you are covered by section 75 even if the card only partially pays for it.
  • The only way I see you can save/make money on this will be just to pay the cash, unless you can get a 12month 0% purchases credit card, and then put the cash in a savings account at >2.5%. Even if you can save the money for 12 months at 3.5% all you will save is £48.

It looks like we will have a shortfall on an endowment policy due in april.
which could be nearly £4000. so we are looking at paying holiday on cc
and paying mortgage off with the cash we have.

it would seen the easiest and possibily the cheapest option to continue the mortgage and use cash for the holiday.
