Hoping to take my 4 kids on holiday this October to Florida (with the money I hope to receive back from my bank charges claim). Anyone got advice on the cheapest flight to Sanford, Orlando from Gatwick and how I go about booking the Hotel (Quality Inn Plaza) or if it's better booking a flight and hotel deal. New to all this package deal stuff so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks0

Hi all
Glad to see an article on haggling down the cost of your holiday.
I have been doing this for years! And I always get the cost of my holiday down from the broacher price and travel agents price but be warned it doesn’t always pay. Often when you try to get the package holiday down in price the agent will split the package. This happened to me back 2 years ago when I booked an all inclusive holiday to Mexico. The original package on teletext was with Thomson’s for 1 weeks 5* all inclusive and cost around £600 as a late deal, so I done the usually and phoned another operator and told them I had received a quote from another agent and wanted the same holiday but could they beat this. After putting me on hold for 5 min they got back to me and had undercut the previous quote by around £95 per person when asked how they could do this the lady on the phone told me they had split the package so the accommodation would be with Thomson’s, the flight with Monarch and the transfers with Med travel but it would still be the exact same holiday. Sounded good to me and as there were 4 of us traveling it would nearly save us £400. Cut a long story short. Mexico was beautiful until 3 days into the holiday when hurricane Willmar hit and the place was in total chaos. The airport was closed for three days after the hurricane and was only going to open to evacuate all the tourists out. The following days after the hurricane people were being up dated from there travel reps about when there flights would be coming in and they would get home, but our Rep from Med travel that could not speak hardly any English was no were to be seen. When he finally turned up we were told that our Monarch flight had all ready gone without us as they had no idea of were we were staying as the package was not with them. Our rep then told us the only way you will get home is if he spoke to all the airline company’s to put us on a standby flight, after 10 days in Mexico we were finally put on the very last British flight out of Mexico back to Gatwick with Thomson’s. I do believe if we had gone for a package that was not split things would have been a lot easier. Since then when I have haggled a package holiday down I make sure it is still all with the same tour operator before I agree.0 -

As with anything, I don't like to pay then avertised price!
So, now that Nationwide very kindly forgot to file their defence in court, therefore giving me victory by default, I decided that a familt treat was in order.
Brochure price was £1345 for 2 adults and 2 children (2 - 17 years).
Spoke to 4 different agents and managed to get the price down to £995.
After researching a bit more, i found that there was a free child place available. Ironically, when I called the agents back, I asked how much if I booked 3 adults and 1 child as one of the children has just turned 16.
£703 was the answer!!! I can't work it out but then again, I'm not arguing!
We are looking forward to a week in a 4* hotel in Rhodes, and all for a pitance! Oh and by the way, inflight meals, transfers and late checkout (an extra 6 hours on the last day) are all included in the price! :j0 -

Hi all
I am new to this site and would like some help on where is best to book an all inclusive holiday for a family of 4 to either Menorca or Portugal? We would like to go around 8th August for 2 weeks as both kids are in school - any ideas welcomed...:jMSE_Archna wrote: »This thread is specifically to discuss the content of theTo discuss or ask a question about the article: click reply0
