Changing banks

Right, I think I might want to change my bank. I am 19, and my average monthly wage is £700. I had/have an account with Lloyds TSB, just the basic one, had since i was about 12, however, I havent used it for 2-3 year now, as I had a Halifax account, same, basic cash card opened. This is where my wages, and my direct debits etc are all from.

Since I have missed a few direct debit payments, and have missed another more recently, ( look on the board). Theres not much chance of me getting an upgrade. Which I would like, with an overdraft of say £100, just to cover my direct debits, bills etc.

So unless when I phone them up 2moro, & they can't offer me anything and i have to wait another 6 months, I will probably move banks. I'll say this to them aswell, and then see what they got to say ;)

Anyhoo, I'm now on the lookout for a suitable new bank account. A high intrest rate would be nice, with a free overdraft of about £100, maybe £150. Any other perks would be a bonus.

If anyone has any suggestions on what I could do, please share.

Cheers

Maybe they could throw in a credit card with a reasonably high limit and a long-ish 0% balance transfer and purchase period as well ;D

Sorry not to be helpful, but I do think you need to be more realistic on what exactly you want. I suggest you try correcting what has gone wrong with your relationship with your bank till now (as most, if not all the problems seem to be with you and not with them)

Frankly, I don't see how you are in any bargaining position with your current bankers, to be able to tell them that you will move if they don't comply with your demands. Best of luck, however, do let us know how you fare.

According to some motoring bod that I heard on the radio the average cost of running a car is around £5000. Big bills are likely to appear at unexpected times. A car is a status symbol and an excellent way of getting into debt on a low income. What transport, employment, education and training options are you considering ?
Could you share the cost and benefits of your car with someone else ?

  • If you open another account, all you are likely to get is another basic account - with Solo/Electron. and no overdraft.

Most banks want to see how you run your account before offering any further facilities, the main exception being students who can ususally apply & get full facilities.

The better your credit rating, the more chance you have, but missing payments will have affected your credit rating.

Rather than saying you need the o/d for times like this, why not save some of your wages for emergencies/months when you are short?
