Never get a refurbished hard drive if you value your data and money.

Absolutely agree - you can pick up a new hard drive for less than £30 that will probably be faster and have a larger capacity than your old one.

Unless by "Hard drive" you mean the actual computer - the shutting down bit got me thinking, then It's worth considering a reconditioned one, but I'd still replace the hard drive of it with a new one.

its been a long battle. I somehow got a virus on my computer although i had protection. However i ended up having to reboot windows totally again but i lost most of the elements in the computer. No sound unable to go on utube etc. Managed to live without but now the computer just decides to shut down when it feels to now and runs so slow that if i dont get rid of it i will need to go to anger management!! thats how bad it is. Ive basically lost all programs as such no dvdrw etc cant even get java!! sad i know.

It sounds like drivers are missing for sound (see device manager), dvd writing software, flash player for youtube.

Slowness and shutdowns could be more infections, try malwarebytes and avira to scan.

Before junking it - either work through the problems or reinstall windows again, and install the missing drivers.
