My mountain bike is my most valuable possession and it's worth around £1200. But I ride it every week and it's my one toy - when I went looking for frames this was the first one that made me go "whooaaar" when I saw the picture, so that was blatant consumerism. Oddly enough, about 2/3 of the time I go out on it people comment on it. It's quite low key, but those in the know say things like "nice bike", "what's it like then" etc and I do get a small glow from that. BUT, I realised recently that, it has to be my own pleasure that's the motivator, not expecting other people to say nice things to me.

To put it in perspective, I managed 4 years on the previous bike and 2 years of thart was my friends leaving my behind down steep hills because the bike wasn't up to it really, depsite my best efforts.

The best thing is though, that when I bought it I still made a net gain that month, because I was earning extra money by breaking up cars (long hours, hard work, but money was worth it).
    Happy chappy

At least the hunting chavs cooked the duck and ate it for dinner but the millionairess, I thought the way she lived was totally immoral. I know ive spent on my kids' education but they have never been showered with gifts. It has always been a rule in our house that they only receive presents at Christmas or birthdays. She was trying to buy their love. As for the dad saying he was proud of his son, well that was commendable but I wasnt quite sure of what he was proud of, the sight of him driving away in his new motor maybe. I also thought it was so funny that they were communicating by mobile phone.
